This is a road warrior with an interesting history, recently rescued and expertly repaired -- not refinished -- by Steve Kovacik.  Photos with additional descriptions are here http://s910.photobucket.com/albums/ac301/composer57/1993%20Martin%20D-41/  Repairs cost $650 and I will include the paperwork from Steve -- he is one of the finest on the East Coast, a certified Martin Repairman, and  fine custom builder.  You can check out his website here:  http://www.guitar-repair.com/

According to the previous owner (I have e-mails but no other documentation) this guitar was owned by a NY session player/folk player.  He also played with the Flaming Lips and alt/folkie Elliott Smith, who acquired this D-41.  Elliott Smith passed in 2003, and while there are many citations about him on the web, the only photos with him and a guitar are with his Yamaha – apparently always his favorite.  Smith was nominated for an Academy Award for his song Miss Misery from the movie Good Will Hunting.

The photos are many and clear.  There are additional descriptions with each on PhotoBucket.  This guitar has a GREAT sound – I am selling it because I have been searching for a D-41 with the original style fingerboard and finally found one.  The one I am selling stands up exceedingly well sound wise to the one I am keeping.  I would describe the 544XXX as somewhat deeper in timbre and not as bright – more woody.  The 544XXX rescue includes everything you can see clearly in the pictures and also a neck reset.  It has some of the prettiest East Indian Rosewood I have ever seen.  I love the guitar – but can’t afford to keep 2 D-41’s!

Nice upgrades to this guitar include fossil ivory saddle, bridge pins, and nut.  It is set up to C.F. Martin factory specs.  I have included a 14 day money-back return policy on this item, so you will have time to truly check the instrument out, including having your own luthier inspect it.  Obviously I feel pretty strongly that this guitar is a winner.

No reserve -- free shipping to the continental U.S. -- here is your chance to grab a pretty fancy Martin at way less that you might otherwise have to pay.

The case – obviously it has been on the road!  It is the original.  I also have a new FQMS black 3 ply hardshell that you are welcome to if you would prefer, or you can have both for an additional $45 plus $25 shipping for the extra case only.
