I read that the Samick epis are of better build quality than the newer chinese built ones and this kind of put me off buying a new epi slightly and made me unsure wether to spend money on my old beat up guitar or buy a new one. Is it true that the Samick are better than the chinese built ones and can anyone.

This ad caught my attention. Don't know much about Samick, other than the fact that they are backed by "the enemy" (Gibson). Looks like a nice axe.
Perhaps Samick isn't the first name that springs to mind when thinking of a good acoustic guitar in the sub-$300 market. However, the massive Korean company produce hundreds of thousands of guitars every year for a wide range of brands, so have plenty of experience in producing something players want to play.
Madeira Guitars used to be Guilds import brand. Just like Epiphone is to Gibson now. They were first made in Japan with USA parts then were made in Korea with USA parts by Samick.(which also still makes Sigma for Martin, Epiphone for Gibson, and Squire for Fender but not with USA parts anymore).
