This is a Martin D-41 Indian Rosewood sides and body, Sitka Spruce top kit that contains everything you need to make a great sounding Martin guitar.I opened the box to show an individual the content and quality of the wood as he was going to buy but got deployed. This was going to be a project to keep me sane but the Gulf War sadly is getting the better of me so I decided it was not going to be. But this is a great project that will yeild an outstanding Guitar.

 This is a very old guitar. The original tuners were just worn out (see photo). The head stock is made in 3 pieces and the lower section or right section was missing when I purchased it. I made a new piece and replaced it. You have to look very close to see. The tortoiseshell bakelite bindings are complete on both sides of the guitar, inside the sound hole and on the pick guard. There is a 6 1/2" hairline crack on the top above the sound hole. I checked the underside and it's right on the edge of an inside brace (no harm). I see small traces of a re-glue on the rear bridge, but it's down good now. Plenty of play left on the frets and fretboard. The materials appear to be mahogany back, sides & neck with a spruce top. The string set at about 5/16" on the 12th fret but very easy to play on the first five frets. There is no truss rod but the neck is straight and there is no bellying on the top of the guitar. If I were to keep it, I would simply shave the rear bridge to compensate, but my collection needs thinning. Guitar measures 17 1/4" across the top, 4 3/4" thick and 41 3/4" long. The sound this guitar produces in my opinion is amazing. There are numbers stamped on the inside of the sound hole, but a couple of them are smudged and hard to read (see photo). I will ship original tuners with the guitar. I have done a lot of research on this guitar as to who and where it was made, but there are too many opinions to make sense of. As a 64 year old player, it's my opinion that it was made in Germany between the 30's and early 50's. It is a fantastic looking instrument just to look at. Sorry, no case, but will pack carefully for safe shipment.
